Sue's Notes
April 2010
On March 31st, close to midnight, our beloved four-footed furry child, Riley, crossed the Rainbow Bridge. He hadn’t been well. But at 12 years old he had enjoyed a good life and I’m sure was happy to live out his final moments at home with his family around him…but I was devastated.

The next morning, I cancelled my appointments – or at least, I thought I had cancelled them all. When my oldest son stopped by to see how I was doing, I neglected to make one last call and stood up a potential client with whom I was meeting for the first time. To me, this was not only embarrassing, it was highly unprofessional.
It turns out she was late for our meeting and called me to check if I had already left; I explained the situation and apologized profusely. She was sympathetic and suggested we talk the following week to re-schedule. And she made me aware that we are “humans first” and “professionals second,” and that it was okay to be emotional.
We need to remember that each day. We are humans first. And by sharing ourselves on a personal level, we can make connections easier, which ultimately help our professional lives.
Riley came into my life in the second year of my business and helped me de-stress in many situations. He would often sleep in my lap as I wrote for clients. He is definitely missed, but his many lessons of relaxing, time out for walks, and enjoying the moment will live on.
