Sue's Notes
May 2010
I seem to have a lot going on these days…I’ve launched a new half day workshop intensive with my good friend and colleague, Pat Mussieux (see below), a new audio program with guidebook will be promoted in the next couple of weeks (fingers crossed), I’m writing for a variety of clients, networking in Kitchener, Stratford, and London, working with my MasterMind group, volunteering on the Communication Committee at our church, preparing for Wine, Women & Shopping along with Nancy Kirwin…and the list goes on. And this is all in the space of 4 weeks.
But I’m no different than you…we all get caught up in our busyness and tend to spend too much time working – until something stops us. Last week I got sick! On top of having dental work (without the relief of proper freezing – yes, picture that if you care to), I came down with a huge infection that stopped me in my tracks. I was out of commission for a few days, only doing the bare necessities when I had to. Mostly, I stayed in bed until the antibiotics kicked in.
Why am I sharing this? Because I became aware that I was less overwhelmed when I realized I didn’t “need to do anything in that moment.” Things could wait. And when I did get back into my office, I was inspired as new ideas popped into my head.
We shouldn’t have to get sick to take time off. Plan a play day to have fun – at least once a month if not more often. Get your mind off your work for a short time and you will work quicker and clearer when you get back to your tasks.
For me, I’ve started another puzzle. (If you’re thinking this is a bit whacky, check out an article I wrote last month: Six Lessons for Business Growth…Learned From a Puzzle.)
Give yourself permission to have fun – it’s for the good of your health – and for the health of your business.
