Formatting Bulleted Lists

Bulleted lists are a great way to focus attention, simplify writing, and add emphasis. When writing for the Web, a list makes the page easier to read and helps with Search Engine Optimization. But there are a few rules to keep in mind.

  • It is generally accepted to capitalize the first word in the list.
  • Be consistent with periods.
  • Use periods to complete a sentence.
  • Do not use periods in lists.
  • Do not use a comma or a semi colon at the end.

Example One

The manager suggests that you:

  • Arrive at noon;
  • Present the project; and
  • Provide a survey.
